Seniors’ Care Initiative is an innovative enterprise of Stronger Together Initiative to reach out to the respected seniors in our community who have been disproportionately affected by the covid-19 pandemic.
Due to the need for physical distancing, many seniors face challenges with picking up essentials like groceries. These challenges are made worse by the new reality of having to wait in long lines at some stores, which may be challenging for frail seniors, and which brings a higher risk of contracting coronavirus.
If you know seniors in neighborhoods who can be assisted with any of these services, connect with us and we would more than happy to help out. Since the beginning of the outbreak, Haligonians have been helping each other in various ways. But, we felt that there needs to be a stable service option for seniors. Note that similar services are offered in few other Canadian cities as well. So, this is not unique; rather a continuation of services available to our elderly.
At this point, due to the size of our team, we are only able to serve seniors in Fairview, Clayton Park, Rockingham, Birch Cove and Kearney Lake. With increased volunteer support in near future, we intend to reach out to other neighborhoods as well.
